Zhangjiang Tramway
Zhangjiang Tram
is the Shanghai’s modern streetcar line, using the French Raul company’s Translohr rail tram system. It is a very modern high speed rubber tired tram system, both second in China & Asia.
Shanghai once had a standard steel wheeled tramway network.. It directly started electric tram. Routes were built step by step, and it reached their most widespread network in 1925 with 328 tramcars. But like most cities around the world during the sixties & seventies, the tram service was completely stopped in 1975.
Tram returned in Shanghai in 2009. Commercial service started in 2010. Unlike standard tramway, it chose a modern rubber tired system.
Zhangjiang Tram in 2007, December 23 started construction. It planned open at December 2008, but in 2009 December 31 was opened to traffic, 2010 January 1 officially passenger operations started. The whole plan of Zhangjiang Tram is running from Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park Station of Shanghai Metro Line 2 to Heqing Town. Now the 10-km-long 1st phase, start from Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park Station, end at Jinqiu Road is running, it has 15 stops, include two stops which can change to Shanghai Metro Line 2, one is Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park Station, the current terminal of Shanghai Metro Line 2, the other is Jinke Road, one stop at the future east extension of Shanghai Metro Line 2。Zhangjiang tram division multiple-phase construction, a project in the east Greenfield Road, Zu Chong Zhi Road (Shanghai Metro Line 2 Zhangjiang Hi-tech station), west Osmanthus Road Autumn Road, about 10 km across the board, with a total of 15 stops, 1 depot. It will be followed by the Tang Zhen-Qing direction of extension.
